Control-Oriented Modeling and Experimental Identification of an Ultracapacitor Module

2013 Electrical Drives & Power Electronics Conference (EDPE 2013), Dubrovnik, Croatia, 2013
This paper presents the results of experimental identification of control-oriented lumped-parameter model of an ultracapacitor module suitable for energy management and state-of-charge (SoC) estimation applications. For the purpose of identification a custom-built test setup comprising current-controlled DC/DC converter has been utilized. The ultracapacitor capacitance vs. voltage curve identification is based on the constant-current charging/discharging tests, while the identification of the overall ultracapacitor admittance model (comprising capacitance and internal resistance effects) is based on ARX process model representation. Thus obtained ultracapacitor model parameters are then used to build control-oriented ultracapacitor simulation models, which are validated against the experimentally-recorded data.
